Cabinteely F.C. is delighted to announce the appointment of David Foley as our Academy Manager on a three year contract.

This follows on from the appointment of Pat Devlin as the club’s Director of Football yesterday.

In this role David will help oversee our National League U19 and U17 teams, as well as the U15 and U13 teams when they are introduced by the FAI. David will also work closely with Pat Devlin and our League of Ireland team.

With this appointment, David returns to the club where he started his coaching career and remained for 11 years. During this time, he oversaw the Leinster Senior League team achieve promotion three years in a row. He was also heavily involved at schoolboy level, taking on the role of Section Coach for small sided age groups in the club. David’s role in the club coincided with coaching the SDFL Kennedy Cup team as part of the FAI Emerging Talent programme.

He then progressed on to become a coach with UCD Waves in the Women’s National League, with the club finishing runners up in both the League and in the FAI Women’s Cup Final during this time.

David brings League of Ireland experience with him, having been involved with Bray Wanderers, and most recently Longford Town as their video analyst for the past two seasons.

David has also supplemented these experiences with annual personal study trips, learning from some top clubs and coaches including observing Brian Kerr during his spell with the Faroe Islands, Caleb Porter with the University of Akron (former USA U23 manager and current Portland Timbers manager), Bolton Wanderers, Memphis University, Derby County and Ajax, one of the leading youth academies in Europe.

Speaking on his appointment, David said “I am delighted to take on this role, with the aim of implementing one of the leading academies in the country. We are in the extremely lucky position that there are so many schoolboy teams within the club and it is my aim that many of these players will progress into our Academy and through to the Senior Team. A lot of work has been carried out behind the scenes over the past year, researching and planning an academy structure that is of the highest standard. I look forward to working with Pat and the academy staff as we look to build on the foundations created in Cabinteely.”

Vice-Chairman Brian McGovern expressed his delight with the appointment, stating that Foley was their number one target: “Having started his coaching career in Cabinteely, David is extremely well known around the club. He brings with him his reputation as an authority on academy football, having studied the leading academies across Europe and in the United States”.

One thing that is clear from the club’s recent announcements is that the whole club is starting to work harmoniously together, with the ambitious plans aimed at delivering benefits to all 58 teams in the club:

“Having met David for hours on end to discuss our ambitious plans, I can tell you that he is extremely excited to get stuck into the project, and to be working alongside the existing coaches in the club. The investment we are making in this Academy will benefit every team here, from Under 5s to the League of Ireland team, with a strong emphasis on improving facilities that will benefit the community as a whole”, McGovern concluded.

Cabinteely F.C. Director of Football Pat Devlin said “I have known Dave for quite some time now. I think this is an absolutely brilliant appointment for both the club and for Dave. He brings a great level of expertise to the role of Academy Manager. I look forward to working closely with him as we look to drive the club forward.”
