Eddie Gormley’s side played out a hard fought nil all draw against second placed Drogheda United at Stradbrook. Both teams had chances to take the full three points but a draw was a fair reflection on a game played out on a scorching Sunday in Stradbrook.

Cabinteely’s starting 11 had two changes to the side that started against Sligo Rovers last week. With Gavin Howard on international duty, the returning Ben Hanrahan took his place while Karl Byrne returned from injury to replace Andrew Wall who had picked up a concussion last week.

The big crowd at Stradbrook was treated to goalmouth action from the off, with the game exploding into life. Ollie Hamzat had the first chance of the game, Mark Slater played a through ball for Hamzat who struck his shot sweetly but it was well saved by McGuinness.

McGuinness made a number of key saves in the first half to keep the score at nil all. Likewise Michael Kelly was not to be beaten in the Cabinteely net.

Hamzat and Hanrahan both had great chances in the first half, Hamzat saw his effort saved while Hanrahan’s shot just went past the far corner. Cabo probably deserved to go in at half-time in the lead but the sides went in at half time all square.

The second half saw less clear cut chances for both sides but still had plenty of goal mouth action. Cabo’s best chance came when Hamzat beat two men in the box and played a ball across the face of the goal but a Cabo player couldn’t get on the end of it, the Drogheda clearance nearly resulted in an own goal.

Drogheda began turn to the screw in search of the winning goal but couldn’t find a breakthrough against a makeshift centre back pairing of Mitchell and Brennan that has impressed in the last two games.

A draw was a fair result but both sides will rue their missed chances to take the full three points.

Next up for Cabinteely is an away trip to Cobh Ramblers next Saturday, we then have the Summer break which coincides with Euro 2016. We return to action on the 24th of June at home against league leaders Limerick. Tickets for this game are available now at loi.cabinteelyfc.ie/tickets
