Cabinteely FC begin their SSE Airtricity National Under-17 League Southern Division campaign away to Galway United on Saturday (March 2).

Kick-off is at 2.00pm at East United FC’s venue at Castle Park in Ballybane.

“We had a great season last year and finished on a high note. Unfortunately, we didn’t win any trophies, but we got to a few Semi Finals. We’re looking forward to the new season. Hopefully we’ll kick it off with a good result this weekend” stated coach Isabelle Connolly.

The Southern section contains 12 clubs which includes Bray Wanderers, Cork City, Cobh Ramblers, Kerry, Galway United, Waterford FC, UCD, Wexford FC, Carlow-Kilkenny, Shamrock Rovers and Limerick FC

With such competition, Connolly stressed “You take each game as it comes. It will be a competitive league with a lot of good teams. But we’ve a strong squad this season and the lads are eager to show what they’re made of.”

She continued “We’ve retained eight lads who were with us last year at 17’s. We’ve also promoted players from the 15’s and brought in a few new players. They’ve blended well. The lads have looked harp in training. And are looking forward to get going.”
