Drogheda United 1

Cabinteely FC 4

Rob Manley’s second half hat-trick saw Cabinteely claim their first ever away SSE Airtricity league First Division away win at United Park.

The former Drogheda striker registered a 21-minute treble to haunt his former club as the away outfit moved up to fourth in the standings.

After a score-less first period last Friday, Cabo turned on the style to prove their recent EA Sports Cup success at the same venue was no fluke.

With 51 minutes on the clock, Manley chased his own header back into the box. But was taken down by Paul Skinner. He then stepped up to sent the goalkeeper the wrong way from the resulting penalty.

It got even better for the Stradbrook side in the 66th minute.

A pin-point free-kick down the right channel by defender Jack Tuite picked out Kieran Marty Waters. Instinctively, he deftly lobbed a cross were Manley powered in a close-range back post header.

And Cabo were flying high by the 72nd minute.

Skinner made a fine save to thwart Sean Hurley. Just as Keith Dalton took the resulting corner, referee Adriano Reale blew his whistle.

It transpired that a transgression by Luke Heeney had been spotted and another penalty awarded. Manley need no further invitation to slot in the 12-yard dead-ball.

With ten minutes to go, United pulled one back. Mark Hughes’ 25-yard shot took a deflection on the way to the net past Stephen McGuinness.

But in the 89th minute, the Green and White’s rubber-stamped a sensational victory.

Alex Aspil wins possession. He found Waters wide right. The wingers’ cross with the outside of left boot was diverted in by Drogheda player Luke Gallagher as Manley waited to pounce.
