In what is quickly becoming a weekly round up of all the news outlets running stories on Cabinteely F.C. (you can read last weeks article here), we now take a look at how the media at home and abroad reacted to us buying Yaya Toure a birthday cake for his birthday. As you may recall, last year Yaya Toure was not best pleased when Manchester City failed to buy him a cake and make a fuss about his birthday. We decided that we would let Yaya know that we were celebrating his birthday and tweeted this.
It has been retweeted over 170 times, including by big companies such as Extratime.ie, BetVictor, McCoy’s Crisps and various Man City fan pages.
As word began to spread about our gesture for Yaya, we soon started seeing Cabinteely appearing across the internet. The first of which was SportsJoe.ie who ran this story:

Then we saw the story appearing in Eurosport, which is what Yahoo use for their sports news. An estimated 68 million people visit Eurosport for their sports news every day!

We then were featured on Goal.com! This is ranked as the 455th most popular website in the entire world! When you consider the amount of websites out there 455th is incredible.
The stories kept coming and next up was 98FM who featured this story:

Next up featured on Reddit. Reddit has over 150 million visitors each month and we were on the first page of their sports section. A Reddit user had shared the article from SportsJoe.ie and it was ranking up beside the Juventus and Real Madrid Champions League Semi Final in popularity.
After all of the media attention and buzz that Cabinteely had created, it wasn’t long before Paddy Power began to take bets on Cabinteely F.C. being Yaya Toure’s next football club giving odds of 500/1!
The Link Marketing
Our marketing partners The Link Marketing analysed all the data and looked at all of the different countries that were interacting with the Yaya Toure story and the betting slip offer we ran last week and they produced the following: This is every country that has been talking about Cabinteely F.C. in the last two weeks!

The Irish Times
We got a nice write up on the back page of the Sports section in Saturday’s edition of The Irish Times.
This story is slightly different to all previous, it doesn’t relate to Yaya Toure. The Guardian in England were linking Petr Cech to a number of club and then say but he is definitely not signing for Cabinteely F.C. while we are disappointed that Petr will not be on the bench next season (he wouldn’t get in ahead of our Evan Whelan) it is nice to see that we are on the radar and one of the biggest newspapers in the UK mentioned us!
