On Friday night, Eddie Gormley’s side recorded back to back home wins for the first time with a convincing 2-0 win against Waterford United. A curled free kick by Ben Hanrahan and a fine header from Joe Doyle ensured that Cabinteely secured the three points that lift them above Athlone Town in the league table.
The game started off even enough with Waterford probably having more possession in the opening period. Cabo soon got a foothold in the game though and began to create chances of their own in the first half. Cabo’s best chance in the half was when Mark Slater saw his shot go just over the bar from 20 yards. Both sides went in at the half at 0-0 and this scoreline was a fair reflection of the first half.
Cabo were the team in the ascendancy in the second half and soon had their just rewards. Shane Boyle was fouled on the edge of the Waterford United box and Cabinteely were awarded a free kick. Oscar Brennan and Ben Hanrahan stood over the deadball and Hanrahan calmly lifted the ball over the wall getting it up and down in a short distance and the ball curling into the bottom corner.
Cabo soon doubled their lead when Kevin Knight did brilliantly down the left hand side and picked out Joe Doyle with a pinpoint cross who headed the ball into the top corner.
Doyle (6) and Hanrahan (5) are the clubs top scorers this year.
